Announcement: Venue change for some shows at The Room Above
Due to changes in room capacity, several shows are being relocated from The White Bear to Basement 45.

Since starting in 2021, The Room Above (TRA) has established itself as Bristol’s leading independent full-time comedy club. Over the years, many comedy stars have performed at TRA; hundreds of local comedians have been supported and thousands of audience members have enjoyed countless, unforgettable nights full of laughs.

Then on Monday 22nd April, The White Bear sadly informed us that, due to a fire safety inspection assessment, the room capacity must be reduced. From Monday 29th April the room capacity will drop to 50. Unfortunately, many of our most popular shows need that larger capacity.

Therefore, we have moved all the bigger shows scheduled from Monday 29th April until May to our sister venue at Basement 45. All promoters, acts and ticket holders are being notified (so please check your inboxes). The smaller shows will remain at The White Bear during this time.

Please note: No shows have been cancelled. Plus all tickets already purchased remain valid.

A longer-term plan for shows scheduled from May onwards is being developed. This will be announced in the coming weeks. TRA remains committed to continue delivering the best comedy for audiences.

TRA Artistic Director, Harry Allmark, said: “Obviously this has been a big shock, but my first thought was the show must go on! I’ve worked closely with acts and promoters to move all the bigger shows to Basement 45. All ticket holders affected are being contacted. I can’t emphasise enough, all shows will go ahead.”

Harry added: “The Room Above is an incredibly special place, but a 50 seat capacity makes it financially unviable. In the longer-term we’ll be looking for a larger, permanent venue. But in the meantime, we’ll continue to deliver brilliant comedy for our fantastic audiences. I’d like to thank Basement 45 for stepping in straight away to help us. The supportive creative community is what makes Bristol the best place for comedy.”

TRA would like to thank all audiences, acts and promoters for their support and understanding during this time. We will keep you all updated. In the meantime, please keep supporting live comedy.
