The Room Above is a vibrant theatre space in the heart of Bristol, located above the historic White Bear Pub on St. Michael's Hill. The Room Above is an intimate venue that specializes in bringing the best and most exciting fringe theatre comedians from across the country and internationally, whilst welcoming and supporting upcoming talent from the wider Bristol community. Dedicated to bringing affordable live comedy to Bristol’s city centre, The Room Above hosts a plethora of diverse shows throughout the week. From the most anticipated touring shows to our new material nights, there’s something for everyone.
Establishing our name as the hottest comedy club in the South West, the venue started life as The Wardrobe Theatre in 2011 and became one of Bristol's most loved venues. When The Wardrobe moved in 2015 the venue was reimagined as The Room Above. Since then it has grown and supported a wide array of professional comedians as well as students and upcoming theatre while also showcasing some fantastic touring acts. Recently, The Room Above began supporting community theatre, working with some of the best international fringe acts and developing a number of in-house productions.

Harry Allmark - Artistic Director
Hello, my name is Harry Allmark. I'm a comedy director, producer, performer, writer and improviser, based in Bristol. My journey with The Room Above has been a long and emotional one that will one day make a great comedy special. I performed my first stand up set here in 2018 and took over the venue in February 2020 - you’ll Enewetak guess what happened the next month. With the help of great people around me The Romo Above has become a friendly welcoming space for comedians of all levels and we hope to continue that journey in bringing you all the best live comedy entertainment we can.
Please feel free to get in touch; be it work related or just a chat about what makes us laugh.
Jacob Burley - Associate Producer
Since I moved to Bristol in 2017 I’ve been a regular at The Room Above, getting involved primarily through student societies and later via Bristol’s vibrant comedy community. Stand up is a massive passion of mine when I’m not behind the scenes or a camera. I now have a fair amount of producing, directing, and performance under my belt – both here and at the Edinburgh Fringe. Theatre has been a staple of my time living in Bristol, so I am keen to give something back. Where better to do that than The Room Above!
Finlay Watts - In House Technician
I’m the in-house technician / operations manager for The Room Above. Primarily operating lights and sound for our comedy nights, you’ll most likely find me welcoming you into our space, answering your questions and ensuring the smooth operation of the night! Being a recent addition to the family and having a background in music production, I’m delighted to be experiencing a diverse range of comedy on a regular basis for the first time.
Please do not hesitate to approach me on the night with any questions or queries about the night or the upcoming schedule!
